Session 9. Multi-Functional / Smart Composites
Session 9. Multi-Functional/Smart Composites
Session Information and Topics
Multi-Functional/Smart Composites refer to the composite materials that have two or more functions or have the capability of reacting to various environmental conditions or stimuli. In recent years, a wide range of novel multi-functional/smart materials have been developed for the use in biomaterials, sensors and actuators, etc. The session will focus on the following topics: electro-active composites, shape memory composites, electromagnetic shielding composite materials, stress/strain sensing composites, thermal management composites, thermoelectric composites, photo-electric composite materials, structural health monitoring composites and composites for actuators, etc., or composite possesses two or more of these or other functions. Composite material properties, transducer mechanisms, end applications, and the potential for integration of the materials with ancillary systems components are all welcomed to be discussed.
